Katherine Beutner’s career aspirations as a child included Elf, Hobbit, or Fairy, but she settled for Writer and Graphic Designer. When not scribbling creative ideas in a notebook, she searches for new books, art materials, willing victims to read her stories, and ways to make more frequent references to The Lord of the Rings.
What kind of stories do you write?
I mainly write speculative fiction (i.e., science fiction and fantasy), because the possibilities for exploring interesting questions are endless. You can check out some of my current writing projects here.
Where can I find your portfolio?
In addition to writing, I work as a graphic designer. I maintain a design portfolio at www.katherinebeutner.com. Some of my favorite projects have been book covers and a map for the Sword and Rose Chronicles by my friend Amber J. Hill.
What author services do you provide?
I am not currently experienced enough provide any editing services for other writers. However, I am a freelance graphic designer and am familiar with the self-publishing process. If you are looking for a cover design, a fantasy map, or other visual materials for your book, check out my online portfolio and contact me for more information!
Where did the title of this blog come from?
Silver was always one of my favorite colors when I was growing up, and pencils are like breathing for anyone who likes to draw and write… so it's a perfect blog title.
So what is your favorite book, then?
Do you realize how impossible that question is for a writer? Well, I do have some of my favorite books listed on Goodreads. If I had to pick two, I’d probably choose The Lord of the Rings by the marvelous J.R.R. Tolkien and the Catholic dystopian I Am Margaret series by Corinna Turner.
Now, go read your favorite book. Or peruse my blog some more. Or go outside and get some fresh air. It’s good for you. 🙂
